Bangladesh return to the series with a great win
The gallery of Ranasinghe Premadasa Stadium, which had been floating in the joy of a possible victory until now, heard a sound of disappointment. Suddenly, a pin-drop silence fell. This is the thrill of ODI cricket. Even if it is over, it is not over before the end.

Bangladesh level series with 16-run win

The end of the second ODI of the series was extremely exciting. This Bangladesh is winning, while that Sri Lankan potential is rising. For the hosts, that potential was carried to the last wicket by Liyanage, who scored 78 runs off 85 balls after falling to 4 for 99. After that, he single-handedly pulled Sri Lanka’s innings.
However, the last laugh was finally for Bangladesh. With 7 balls remaining, Sri Lanka was all out for 232 runs and the series is now 1-1 after winning by 16 runs. The Bangladesh team will go to Kandy today to play the last match in Pallekele on July 8 with the dream of winning the series.
Sri Lanka had lost 8 wickets for 170 runs in response to Bangladesh’s 248 runs. Even though there were still 11.3 overs left in the innings, Sri Lanka’s defeat was the likely outcome from there. But Liyanage seemed to think differently. He put on a 58-run partnership with Dushmant Chamira for the ninth wicket, in which Chamira’s role was mainly to keep Liyanage company.
But Liyanage could not do the last. Mustafiz, who came to bowl in the ninth over of Sri Lanka’s innings and gave away 17 runs after taking four boundaries to Kusal Mendis, had only one contribution in this match – bringing Liyanage back and restoring Bangladesh’s chances of winning. Another pacer, Tanjim Hasan, completed the formality by bowling Chamira in the 49th over. However, Tanjim had caught Asita Fernando with his own ball the previous ball. He made up for it by taking Chamira’s wicket with the next ball and reveling in the joy of victory.
